GEP Trans Health Conference
The mission of the Gender Expansion Conference is to promote gender inclusive awareness and inclusivity in healthcare, while promoting gender inclusivity for community organizers, professionals, families and trans and gender diverse individuals alike.
The Gender Expansion Conference has be a long standing vision of executive Bree Sutherland, and through the work of a small dedicated group of volunteers, the Gender Expansion Project and Gender Expansion Conference have become reality.
Following attendance of the 2015 Gender Expansion Conference, attendees will be able to:
1. Identify strategies for creating a welcoming environment for gender diverse individuals
2. Report on best practices for masculinizing and feminizing medical treatment recommendations for adults and youth
3. Describe the development of gender identity in the context of adolescent development
4. Discuss risks and benefits of available options for gender affirming surgeries
5. Describe principles of harm reduction in relationship to gender affirming medical and surgical treatments.
6. Explain co-management of pre and post-surgical care for transgender patients by surgeon and primary care providers
Gender Expansion Project
Mission & Vision
The Gender Expansion Project’s mission is to promote gender inclusive education and awareness surrounding transgender, transsexual, intersex and gender diverse people through evidence based care, education, research, advocacy, public and private policy and respect in transgender health and wellbeing.
We, as an organization, envision the future of the project bringing together diverse professionals dedicated to developing best practices and supportive policies and programs throughout Montana which promote health, research, education, respect, dignity and equality for transgender, transsexual, intersex and gender diverse people of Montana and beyond.
As an interdisciplinary and professionally focused organization, the Gender Expansion Project will work to further the understanding, care, treatment and acceptance of transgender, transsexual, intersex and gender diverse individuals. With an emphasis on the health and well being of these individuals, the Gender Expansion Project will work to further the understanding and treatment of gender identity disorders and related gender variant health concerns by professionals in medicine, psychology, law, social work, psychotherapy, family studies, sociology, anthropology, sexology, speech and voice therapy, among other related fields
The Gender Expansion Project will provide opportunities for professionals from various sub-specialties to communicate with one another in the context of the needs of those of gender diversity in the areas of medicine, psychology, law, social work, psychotherapy, family studies, sociology, anthropology, sexology, speech and voice therapy, and other professional care focuses, as well as providing opportunities for community professionals, including corporate staff, human resource professionals, community organizers and organization administration to further their education of the issues surrounding those of transgender, transsexual, intersex and gender diverse identities, including access to basic needs, access to public assistance, access to equal employment and equality both at a public and private policy level.
